We have newly moved house into what could be called, hmmm, a frozen old villa? Yes, that sounds right. Our hot water, heater and cooking is run off gas mains - which in winter can prove a little costly if everything is running all at once. My partner and I have been determined to keep our costs low and have taken the following measures:

Run a bath - and share it together (quite handy really - no need to wash yourself when someone else can wash you!)

Push the couches up together to create a makeshift bed. Cosy up on the couchs (bed) together and add surplus blankets. Maybe add a cat or two. Turn off the lights for full effect (cost effect as well)

Enjoy cups of coffee out of a thermos - thus boiling the jug just the once. The excess water in the jug goes into filling the hot water bottle. Say ta-ta to the electric blanket.

All up - you might say we have become 'closer' as a result of our power saving techniques. Not hard to master mind you!

*Optional extras:

Couples roller blade after work - gets you warm and out of the house (no power necessary!)
Build a bonfire at the beach while fishing - the fish we catch can be baked on the open fire.
Visit family and friends for dinner to use their power!
