about saving power then consider this. Your Hot water cylinder when turned on only operates at one speed. That is flat out. Whenever the thermostat trips then it only knows flat out.
If children think they look good or feel special in a certain jacket/ woollen jumper etc, then they will wear it often rather than turn on a heater when they feel cold.
Fill up a hot water bottle and put under the covers five minutes before you go to bed. Your bed will be warm and you'll save using the electric blanket.
To help keep warm, pop a wheat bag in microwave for 3mins (500w mic), 1st warm hands up as u position it, u can pop ur feet on it to warm up, or stick it under ur jumper on ur tummy when sitting, warm
I do a load of washing at night, and peg it all on the airers the heat that we are using to heat the house drys the washing without using any more power!
When my children were young they would take it in turns to have the slow cooker in there room over night. I would make a large casserole one evening put it on low in a bedroom.
Get the kids to go around and turn off or unplug everything that is not currently being used. The kids like to see who can turn off the most in the shortest possible time.
If you have to use the oven to cook, make the most of it and make a couple of batches of muffins or scones to pop into the freezer (a fuller freezer uses less electricity too).
